het TheaterFestival 2026
This year, het TheaterFestival kicks off the performing arts season for the 36th time. Following Antwerp and Ghent, the festival returns to Brussels this year. Over the course of eleven days, hTF brings together the most notable productions from the past season. From theatre and dance to circus and performance, it presents shows selected by an independent, multi-voiced VakJury. In addition to the VakJury, the WijkJury – a jury of city residents with no theatre experience – also chooses its favourite: The WijkJury’s Choice.
However, het TheaterFestival is much more than a ‘best-of’: it is a meeting place for audiences and artists to engage in conversation, attend workshops and critically reflect on what is happening on our stages. As every year, the festival kicks off with ‘the States’: speeches that provoke thought within the performing arts sector and create space for new ideas. In addition, the sector awards will be presented on 8 September 2026: a moment to celebrate the talent of the past season. This year, the heart of the festival is at KVS in Brussels.
