A highly amusing choreography about… sex
Last season to come by the young Danish choreographer Mette Ingvartsen was a modest hit, a secret tip-off which mobilized an enthusiastic young audience.
to come is based on the conclusion that in our everyday lives – on television, in magazines and in films – we are constantly confronted with sexual bodies. Together with four dancers, Mette Ingvartsen incorporates this into a highly amusing performance that is made up of three parts.
In the first part we see five bodies ‘covered’ in tight-fitting blue suits. The shapes of the body – including the face – are disguised in such a way that these figures appear to be almost asexual. One can barely distinguish male from female. Nevertheless they assume all sorts of ‘obscene’ poses in a sort of collective copulation. Without any sense of excitement or emotion they test out how body parts fit together and how they can merge with one another’s bodies in the strangest ways.
In part two they discard their suits and reveal three girls and two boys in snazzy forties clothing. Standing all bunched up together they then proceed to pant and moan, basing their performance on the orgasm of an invisible partner whose sensual sounds they hear through their headphones.
The blue foreplay and orgasmic climax are followed by a tailpiece of pure dance pleasure as the five dancers throw themselves into a wild ingeniously choreographed jive where their uneven number produces situations with constantly changing couples.
