Earrings

We are reviving a dance performance that put the debate about feminism and gender equality in Turkey into sharp focus at WoWmen 2014: happy happy together by the Turkish choreographer Ilyas Odman. It is a performative interpretation of Wong Kar Wai’s film Happy Together. Two men who are bound together by earrings try to regain their independence; free, on their own.

Odman combines contemporary dance with acrobatics and mime-theatre. He performed in Jérôme Bel’s The Show Must Go On at the iDANS Festival in Istanbul in 2011. He is the co-founder of the Copycats collective (to which members of Schwalbe also belong, see p. ??), with which he created the performances Countdown, Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah and Holy Holy Holyæ.He has toured Europe with three of his own productions: tired (2005), glassteps (2006) and oggi niente (2010).
