The things we know we don’t know

After two years of testing the possibilities and limits of a talk show during the BAUER HOUR series, Eleanor Bauer continues the conversation. She replaces after-talks with PROTO-TALKS.

Instead of discussing what you just saw, Bauer questions artists about what is yet to come. Nascent ideas – usually reserved for notebooks, dreams, and conversation with cohorts – turn into public discourse and shared imagination.

PROTO-TALKS are an exercise in speculative theatre, in sharing the creative space of uncertainty where artistic process fumbles around in the dark searching for form. Talking about the show you've just seen is not strictly off-limits, but Getting All The Answers is not the point. After-talks, publicity texts, programme notes, and reviews can talk about what we think we know, but PROTO-TALKS are for talking about what we know we don't know!
