Gloria always believed she was ‘pretty unique’.
Until one day she runs into herself.
Or rather, someone who is very much like her. Someone with exactly the same name, the same body, the same dreams.
The more she tries to be original, the more she gets stuck in a simulation of her own life.
Until she realises she has become exactly what she had always fled from:
a reproduction,
a duplicate,
a pastiche of herself.

COPYRIOT is about the search for solid ground in a world that increasingly looks like a copy of a copy. Inspired by Charlie Kaufman’s films and by Dostoevsky’s absurdist short story The Double, Krapp wants to evoke a tragicomical mirror world full of strange duplications and dubious doppelgängers.

Although individuality appears to reign supreme, we are increasingly mistaken for our virtual doppelgängers: idealised ghosts that look a lot like us and – who knows – perhaps one day will become more ‘real’ than us.

Once again, Krapp tries to face the ‘monstrous’ with COPYRIOT. After dealing with paranoid cyborgs, gothic ghosts and the Devil himself, they now confront the biggest monster of modern times: the ego.

Krapp is the theatre collective of Mats Vandroogenbroeck, Nona Demey Gallagher and Timo Sterckx. Together they share a passion for the entanglement of fact and fiction, science and nonsense, history and grotesque fantasy. Krapp created the productions Through The Looking-Glass (SABAM Young Theatre Writing Prize 2019), Weird Tales (2021) and, together with KVS, De Duivels/Les Diables (2023). On 4 February 2026, their new production COPYRIOT premiered at KVS.
