Test, touch, listen, smell

Anyone who has recently experienced a Kate McIntosh performance will have become involved at a number of different levels. Some people will have demolished or dismantled interior and garden objects in order to create something new (Worktable). Others will have researched types of collectivism by throwing pieces of furniture across the stage, by joining together to create an orchestra of rainmakers, or by collecting their own bacteria (All Ears). Kate McIntosh is still curious about how to involve spectators, thus encouraging them to explore both their own motivations and those of the group.

With In Many Hands, McIntosh dives into a tactile and multi-sensory world. She invites you to test, touch, listen and smell. She turns her back on the stage and opts for a series of sensory ‘situations’ which give you free rein to experiment. In Many Hands is part laboratory, part art fair, and part sensotopia: take your time to explore and follow your nose!

• Kate McIntosh always transcends the boundaries of performance, theatre and installation. She will be artist-in-residence from 2017, and has previously appeared at Kaaitheater with Untried Untested, Dark Matter and Hair from the Throat.

After about 45 minutes, there is probably no one in the room whose hands are not completely filthy… A rare and wonderful offer to concentrate on yourself without losing sight of your fellow human beings. – kultur.kino.ruhr
