Kaaitheater opened its doors in March 2021 to FOR ALL QUEENS! In two days time, they put together a film that takes you through three rooms each with a different view on what ballroom culture is. Want to learn more about this community and culture? Then you'll learn what the do's & don'ts are, gain insight into the history, and see that that duckwalk does not have to be so bouncy.

In MEMENTO MORI!, documentary filmmaker and visual artist Els Dietvorst brings two solos together. The first is performed by Dirk Roofthooft, one of Flanders’ most iconic actors, the second by the Brussels-based actress Aurelie Di Marino. The first monologue mirrors the second. As a diptych, they reflect on themes such as individualism, globalization and migration, as well as the alienation and disenchanted world to which they lead.

The improvisations of the American choreographer Steve Paxton to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations are unforgettable for anyone who ever witnessed them. Paxton began the project in 1984 and stopped in 1992. For ten days, video artist Walter Verdin followed the movements of the improvising Paxton and edited a striking 54 minute-long dance film.

A prostitute in a North African country during the Arab Spring immerses you in the everyday drag of clients who come and go. Rachid Benzine – Europe’s great herald of enlightened Islam – wrote the text for the Palestinian film actress Hiam Abbass. Director Ruud Gielens opted for a staging that is as restrained as it is intense. After its première last season – two days after the Brussels attacks – it is time to reprise the production.
