Artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater Michiel Vandevelde is touring four cities with his Precarious Pavilions. In each city, he builds a pavilion with a different artist, each time asking the question: ‘How do we deal with space and architecture in this unstable world?’ For his second pavilion in Brussels, choreographer Michiel Vandevelde and the collective 431 are coming to the Place de la Monnaie.

Tue 23.10 - Wed 24.10.18

In In Many Hands, artist-in-residence Kate McIntosh explores tactility. She invites you to test and to touch, but also to listen and to smell. Along with other visitors, but without speaking, you will experiment with materials in a series of sensorial ‘situations’. In Many Hands is part laboratory, part expedition, part meditation: follow your nose and your curiosity!

Flanked by two clumsy assistants, artist-in-residence Kate McIntosh stands on the stage as a high priestess in a glittering gown. During a kind of revue, they passionately devote themselves to a series of household experiments. Dark Matter is an extremely funny production that simultaneously evokes a sense of ominousness.

The worlds of artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater Benjamin Vandewalle, Kobe Wyffels, and Hannah Bekmans couldn’t not be more different. In Common Ground, they search for intersections and differences through movement. One moment they are performing fragile and intimate duets, but the next a competitive test of strength erupts. What can they learn from one another?

Tue 15.01 - Wed 16.01.19

Due to productional reasons, this performance is postponed.

The vocal ensemble HYOID and artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater Benjamin Vandewalle are adapting Indianerlieder (1972) by Karlheinz Stockhausen, an iconic but rarely performed work. They are creating a gesamtkunstwerk that aims to reveal the vitality and timelessness of Stockhausen’s music. They are abandoning the original scenography in order to place the audience at the very centre of the three-dimensional ritual.

Can dance be a tool to imagine the future? Can you make science fiction with choreography?  Starting from the abstract drawings of Valery Pavlovich Lamakh, artist-in-residence Michiel Vandevelde has created an alienating choreography that offers you a glimpse of a possible future. Whether this future looks utopic or dystopic depends on how you look at it.
