The director Josse De Pauw, screenwriter Marc Didden and musician Roland have set up a project for Het Toneelhuis based on the beat poets: Burroughs, Kerouac, Ginsberg and other distinguished kindred spirits. It is the portrait of an era and a wild generation. The performance is a cross between a reading and a concert. In addition to actors there are guest appearances by writers and musicians every evening.

Tom and Bess O’Bedlam are two archetypical lunatics from England. Their madness inspired poets, musicians, painters and dramatists. These two archetypes accompany us on a trip through English culture. The show focuses on the English Renaissance, a period when composers used their new musical idiom to convey an astonishing repertoire of ‘madness arias’.

The Viennese composer and computer musician Bernhard Lang often works with choreographers, video artists, and DJs, and this is made apparent in the programme for the evening, which meanders around his work. It is the aesthetics of the loop, the repetition, that connects the various parts of the programme.

Eric Sleichim takes a closer look at Russian Futurism. His partners in crime are the versatile singer Claron McFadden, cellist Jörg Brinkmann and turntable wizard Matthew Wright. Russian Futurism disconnects language from substantive meaning, accompanied by merry song, recitation and shouting. Experience a concert like an unstoppable factory happening!

PERFORMATIK 2015 DOUBLE BILL - Body Not Fit For Purpose is the first overtly political work of choreographer Jonathan Burrows and musician Matteo Fargion. Its starting point is the uselessness of dancing to express anything of any real concern and at the same time the inherent, gloriously foolish radicality of the attempt. With sequenza, artist Manon de Boer and violinist and composer George van Dam present a programme of live performances and films around four compositions for solo violin

There are more than 6000 names for the wind around the world. Fascinated by this almost ‘virtual’ natural element, the choreographer Karine Ponties, composer Dominique Pauwels and artist Lawrence Malstaf are creating a performance about invisible forces and their visible traces, and on the impact of elusive energy and endless movement.

What would hell look like today? The 500th anniversary of the death of Hieronymus Bosch, made Vasco Mendonça, Kris Verdonck and Dimitri Verhulst think. They quickly arrived at the beaches of Lampedusa: a place where while tourists were sunbathing refugees were washed up on the beach. The false paradise of the resorts and the Boschian hell on earth seamlessly flow into each other.

Pierre Boulez is a man of precision and meticulousness, as a conductor, as an author on music, and as a composer. He is constantly revising his work and adding new material to it, so that it evolves over time. To offset the eddying music of Boulez, the musikFabrik ensemble performs Ni, an existential and soothing piece by Mark Andre, as well as a new soundtrack piece for ensemble by Michel van der Aa.

In 2007 we will be commemorating the tercentenary of the death of Dietrich Buxtehude, whose work constitutes the musical link between Schütz et Bach. He raised the North German organ school to new heights and influenced Bach’s organ music. BL!NDMAN pays tribute to the master with choral preludes and cantatas in a contemporary setting for four saxophones and four voices.
