Attacks without consequences

exhibition

Thu 02.04.15

Artist Pieter Van den Bosch created five publicly accessible fire constructions, including one during Festival Kanal in Brussels; five variations of ‘attack situations’, devoid of any intrinsic or other threat. Against the physical performance, a central focus of his exhibition is the opportunity to look at the images.

Author and director Peter Verhelst and letter sculptor Maud Bekaert worked on this together with artists such as Johan Tahon, Dirk Braeckman, Cristina Iglesias, Lili Dujourie and Helmut Stallaerts.

PERFORMATIK 2015 - Dancer and choreographer Philipp Gehmacher is a familiar guest at the Kaaitheater, from his collaboration with among others Meg Stuart and with his own creations. He introduces my shapes, your words, their grey as an exhibition of a visual and choreographic movement that infects the language of objects with the language of the body and linguistic language and that takes place in the medium of grey, in which all colours vibrate.

PERFORMATIK 2015 - Can a piece of choreography be executed in the same form, time, space and conditions of an exhibition? Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker reimagines Vortex Temporum for the radically different conditions of a museal space, i.e. WIELS. She rethinks the performance as a nine weeks long exhibition, continuously performed during regular opening hours.

Mon 12.01 - Fri 13.03.15

In her latest series of collages, Up in Arms, Horvat reworks family photos shot in socialist Yugoslavia in the 60s and 70s, when ideals of solidarity and progress were still strong. Horvat concentrates on the symbolic element of arms, detached from the subjects, which are cancelled out as if they were lost.

The Iraqi photographer Hussein Atshan was born between two years after the start of the first Gulf War. He was in Baghdad during the second Gulf War and also the 1991 uprising. When America invaded in 2003 he became both fighter and victim. In the end he fled to Belgium, where he has been living for seven years. His photos showcase military helmets from the First and Second World War. They represent a history of violence and suppression.
