Thu 04.06 - Sat 13.06.09

Fumiyo Ikeda has danced with Rosas since 1983. During the course of her career she has also chosen her own direction. She recently created the confrontational Nine Finger with Benjamin Verdonck and Alain Platel. Now she is joining forces with Tim Etchells,  who is famous for his work for Forced Entertainment.

Press
Fri 20.02 - Sat 21.02.09

Press is based on childlike fantasies about monsters: how in the darkness and shadows objects or body parts can assume monstrous shapes, become unrecognisable and frighten us. The French choreographer and dancer Pierre Rigal finds himself in a sort of box: a small, empty space which changes mechanically and to which the body has to adapt. The result is an absurd performance that is both frightening and amusing.

The Making of Doubt
Fri 13.02.09

In The Making of Doubt, the Scottish choreographer Colette Sadler puts four dancers and several puppets and prostheses on stage. She uses them to play a clever and witty game with reality, fiction and manipulation. How much authenticity do we need to believe in the fake? ‘The physical transformation of dancers by means of their costumes raises associations with the Triadisches Ballett by the Bauhaus exponent Oskar Schlemmer’ (8Weekly.nl).

Headbanger's Wall

Headbanger's Wall
Headbanger's Wall
Thu 15.01 - Sat 17.01.09

The writer and theatre-maker Peter Verhelst is creating a new piece for three female dancers and one voice in the Kaaistudios. It’s called Headbanger’s Wall and is primarily about consolation. There is a passage of music from Requiem for my friend, the music Zbigniew Preisner wrote for his dead friend, the film maker Krzysztof Kieslowski. There are three female bodies trying to overcome gravity. There are minor rituals that bring the women together. There is a voice that says we shall never give up. There is strength. Obstinacy. The will to remain standing.

Forces
Sun 16.11.08

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL - Forces is based on a study of the four universal forces that dominate our world: gravity, electromagnetism, weak interaction and strong interaction. The choreographer translates physics into dazzling physical scenes and astounding images. To do this he works with different dancers for two weeks every month.

Sat 15.11.08

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL - The Argentine choreographer and dancer Diego Gil and the Serb dramatist Igor Dobricic have created several unruly and radical dance performances in a short space of time. About Falling is another uncompromising performance.

At Large
At Large
Fri 14.11 - Sat 15.11.08

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL - Eleanor Bauer (ex-PARTS) has created a dance performance full of references to and influences from street dance; at the same time it is also a book, a website, a series of new songs, a screensaver and a dance fad. The New York Times: ‘Dynamite to perform a dance that makes you think’. De Morgen newspaper: ‘A stiff cocktail of images and statements that leaves you feeling completely confused at the end of the performance’.

Komposition

Komposition
Komposition
Wed 12.11 - Thu 13.11.08

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL - Komposition was created in three lengthy periods of work in which the dancers rehearsed before a ‘live audience’. The dance performance circles around the theme of the group: how do we look at a group, how do we experience a group and how does the audience appear to a group on stage. The dancers have performed with companies like Rosas and Superamas.

Tue 11.11 - Wed 12.11.08

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL - (g)hosts is a dance performance, a sound experiment and a radio broadcast. We enter the theatre to find a world of unnerving illusions. A place haunted by opinions, sensations, emotions and other presences. Together we’ll explore the testimonies of the performers fantasy while channeling a few along the way. Please don’t be scared, be invited.

Sat 08.11 - Sun 09.11.08

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL - An intimate dance performance about relationships. Our relationships are generated by convictions (or the shadows of them), feelings, experiences, winks, expectations, secrets, and so on. When a third person looks at us from the outside…

Breeding, Brains and Beauty
Breeding, Brains and Beauty
Sat 30.08 - Sun 31.08.08

Breeding, Brains and Beauty focuses mainly on the spectator’s experience, on the journey your senses take you on during this evening at the theatre. Theatrical, radiophonic, filmic and choreographic stimulation are fired at you on parallel paths. The performance is conceived as a choreography transposing a varying set of parameters from a Hollywood melodrama from the 1940s.
