La Fracture
Sun 18.09 - Fri 23.09.22

In her solo and first theatre performance La Fracture, Yasmine Yahiatene shares the stage with video material. The performance is an investigation, a search for herself, for her past and above all for a decipherment of a complex and intimate relationship – the relationship with her father. It is the beginning of a work of recovery, of resilience.

“The walls have ears” people sometimes say. But what if they could also speak? For Fluisterbehang, Tristero uncovers the hidden stories stored in the walls of the Schaerbeek residence at 80 Gallaitstraat. During a guided visit you literally listen to the walls of the old building!

With his political solo The President's Jacket, Congolese dancer, choreographer and activist Lucas Katangila tackles the abuses in eastern Congo. In his choreography balances between supple, flowing movements and a very calculated, sometimes even restrained dance. Until the tension can no longer be held back and the piece erupts, spitting out the violence.

The 8th letter, H, is the letter that started Effi & Amir's research into the both ancient and contemporary practice of ‘Shibboleth’.  Around a round table, this interactive performance draws lines, measures sounds and tells stories about how a voice becomes a border and a collection of sounds becomes a checkpoint.

What does it mean to be a witness? A woman dancing in the sweaty, partying crowd suddenly recognizes the DJ. Gradually, she makes out the face of a war criminal who was never convicted. Together with musicians Alen and Nenad Sinkauz and dancer cum actress Ivana Jozić, Jureša questions the dynamics of polarization, compliance with authority and the lure of group violence.

Sun 13.03.22

bodies of knowledge (BOK) considers the city as a rich source of valuable knowledge. Every passer- by could teach you something from their own background and life-experiences. BOK seeks to share this invisibilized or suppressed knowledge through oral transmission, that potentially could give rise to a socially more just society. The Big BOK Multiplication tells the story of one and a half year of BOK in Brussels. It's the gathering of a learning community, and an encounter with a living corpus of non-dominant knowledge. Feel welcome to join and learn along.

Infidèles is a performance about a love triangle that ended disastrously, and about the impact of lies and deceit. In this homage to Ingmar Bergman, four actors present a tragedy about ordinary life which exposes human aspects all too familiar. All this is presented in the well-known STAN style: with the necessary lightness and detachment. In 2018, Infidèles premiered in a French language version – now you can experience the show in Dutch for the first time.

Tactile Talk invites you into a landscape of foam rocks, where performers guide you through a game. Place a rock, make eye contact, follow, take charge, stand back and watch the image emerge. Tactile Talk is a meeting, a silent conversation about making contact, setting boundaries, noticing what moves us and what moves between us. It is a visual game, and a social choreography in which you investigate distance and proximity.

Departing from the simple action of shirt pulling, common in football as a method of maintaining contact with an opponent, not letting an opponent get away and typically seen as an aggressive act, Ahilan Ratnamohan and a group of performers attempt to push this action to its limits, debunking its aggressive, competitive quality to arrive at something new. In doing so the jerseys begin to take on a new significance.

In the coming years, Jan Decorte and Sigrid Vinks will focus on collaborating with young performers. BLOOD LTD by Bloet is a project with the density of a black hole. All themes, visions, opinions, dogmas and manifestos are swallowed up and evolve from a meaningless zero to a meaningful chaos. Jan Decorte and Sigrid Vinks, together with Ika Schwander and Oumar Dicko, create their own theatre language: light, whispering and fleeting.

On stage: two adults and a child, unrehearsed, invited anew for every show. The child, on headphones, seems to be in charge. The adults copy the movements of children they see on screens around them. This puppet-like dance illustrates the stories, songs and dreams selected and whispered by the voices of yet more children as useful examples of vulnerability or surprise. Who are these kids?

Thu 10.06.21

In the same week where you can witness Michiel Vandevelde’s Goldberg Variations and Dances of Death at Kaaitheater, he looks back at nine years of performance making and choreographing by directing a video as an exhibition. Shot in single takes with a drone, you roam through the empty building of PACT Zollverein. Each room holds its own ‘ghosts of the past’ on which the next room builds further. You encounter dancers, dances, sounds, and texts. Traveling through fragments of Michiel’s performances the underlying threads and questions of his work are unraveled.
