To round up TO AUTHENTICITY… AND BEYOND!, we invite performance theorist Bojana Cvejić for a final talk, followed by a conversation with Prof. Rudi Laermans. Laermans wrote the essay Be(come) yourself!, which marked the beginning of this season’s series on authenticity.

The School of Speculative Documentary is an interdisciplinary space for encounter that seeks to question the documentary act. Creators take the floor to discuss uncertainty and guesswork, to confront the unfixable holes in their work and the messiness of reality.

Racial Authenticity is based upon essentialist notions of race and ethnicity, but it also describes the way in which we claim our subjecthood as identity by merging autobiography, practice, and body. Anthropologist/artist Julian Warner draws from his ethnographic fieldwork on the current state of black cultural workers in Germany, to address this articulation of racist discourse, progressive politics, and neoliberal commodification.
