A new generation of choreographers and dancers have their noses pressed against the glass: 24 students from 12 countries are graduating from PARTS, the school of dance headed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. The fourth programme is a new version of Drumming (1998), a milestone in Rosas’ oeuvre and with music by Steve Reich. For three months the students have worked on a new version of the work, guided by Marta Coronado, Jakub Truszkowski and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker herself.

KUNSTENFESTIVALDESARTS 010 - Lia Rodrigues is a key figure of contemporary dance in Brazil. In recent years, she has worked with inhabitants of Rio’s favelas, where she set up a centre for artistic training and creation. Pororoca explores the notion of “community”. The movements of the eleven dancers in this overwhelmingly physical performance emerged spontaneously, freely, sensually, but they are developed with near obsessive precision.

KUNSTENFESTIVALDESARTS 010 - The starting point of ZERO is the body as tabula rasa: a body with no memory, no past, no future, which performs each movement as if for the first time; a tool with neither purpose nor function. ZERO explores the relation between memory and the body, its bearings and reflexes, with remarkable physical intelligence.

Wittgenstein Incorporated is a re-construction of three lectures the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein gave in Cambridge before the Second World War for a select audience of colleagues and close friends. Wittgenstein paced up and down the room while philosophising out loud and in impromptu fashion – while allowing others to witness it. Rerun of the legendary Kaaitheater production made 20 years ago.

In her previous pieces, Charlotte Vanden Eynde often used objects and video, coming close to the boundary of visual art. In I’m Sorry It’s (Not) A Story she gives shape to her associative visual idiom in pure movement and dance, and seeks out the ‘image’ and poetry of movement.

Dancing with the Sound Hobbyist is a masterly dialogue between movement and sound, an adventuresome dance trip through the cosmopolitan music world of Zita Swoon.

The recurring themes in New York choreographer DD Dorvillier’s work are language, perception and representation and their imperfections. Choreography, a Prologue for the Apocalypse of Understanding, Get Ready! is a triptych in which Dorvillier looks at the way we try to communicate and understand each other.
