Thu 01.07 - Sun 04.07.10

The second Dansand! builds on this proven formula with commissions to choreographers, live art performers and dancers, with dance films, dance interventions in public spaces, live music in the Venetian Galleries, evening performances with a view of the sea, and plenty more by Christine De Smedt & Mette Edvardsen, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, P.A.R.T.S., Les SlovaKs, Barbara Thalassatis and others.

Thu 24.06 - Sat 26.06.10

The choreographer Panaibra Gabriel and image-maker Walter Verdin hope to make GUESTS a comprehensible, even moving performance that does not get stuck in high-tech experiments and effects. The theme is communication. Can we communicate with others without losing our identity? It is preceded by a workshop in which guest dancers are selected. They are given the opportunity to personally test and manipulate the system.

A new generation of choreographers and dancers have their noses pressed against the glass: 24 students from 12 countries are graduating from PARTS, the school of dance headed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. The fourth programme is a new version of Drumming (1998), a milestone in Rosas’ oeuvre and with music by Steve Reich. For three months the students have worked on a new version of the work, guided by Marta Coronado, Jakub Truszkowski and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker herself.

Although Savion Glover is still young, he is already a dance legend. In his virtuoso performances he rediscovers the tap-dancing genre. Together with his trio he brings Caribbean beats, rhythms from hip hop, jazz and even Bach to life on the dance floor. Their show is streetwise and sublime, and an infectious performance!

Tom and Bess O’Bedlam are two archetypical lunatics from England. Their madness inspired poets, musicians, painters and dramatists. These two archetypes accompany us on a trip through English culture. The show focuses on the English Renaissance, a period when composers used their new musical idiom to convey an astonishing repertoire of ‘madness arias’.

Thu 27.05 - Sat 29.05.10

KUNSTENFESTIVALDESARTS 010 - Lia Rodrigues is a key figure of contemporary dance in Brazil. In recent years, she has worked with inhabitants of Rio’s favelas, where she set up a centre for artistic training and creation. Pororoca explores the notion of “community”. The movements of the eleven dancers in this overwhelmingly physical performance emerged spontaneously, freely, sensually, but they are developed with near obsessive precision.

Decorte had earlier adapted Euripides to make «Betonliebe + Fleischkrieg» Medeia and now he is working on The Bacchae. What interests Decorte is the element of extreme horror in the story and the contrast between the reason of Pentheus, king of Thebes, and the passion in the character of Dionysus, god of ecstasy, wine and theatre.

KUNSTENFESTIVALDESARTS 010 - The starting point of ZERO is the body as tabula rasa: a body with no memory, no past, no future, which performs each movement as if for the first time; a tool with neither purpose nor function. ZERO explores the relation between memory and the body, its bearings and reflexes, with remarkable physical intelligence.

Wittgenstein Incorporated is a re-construction of three lectures the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein gave in Cambridge before the Second World War for a select audience of colleagues and close friends.
