WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — Do people treat plants with enough respect? What happens when plants break out of the background of our living rooms? Gosie Vervloessem calls on a number of horror movies in which plants frighten us. Sometimes they attack us head-on, but often the horror lies in ominously waving branches and rustling bushes. According to the artist the exploitative human-vegetal relation comes to a climax in the nature reserve, the plantation and the botanical garden. Places with a direct link to a colonial past.

Get to know the latest generation of theatre-makers. In June, three theatre students from the RITCS will be presenting their graduation productions at the Kaaistudios. Not mine and other stories invites you to take a seat at the table. In this tribute to Ian White (1971-2013), Jimmy Robert investigates the worlds of disco and death. Expect a critical meditation on the legacy of the 1980s with a specific focus on AIDS, activism, gender and race. 

Hiba Alansari found a math book in a destroyed house in northern Syria in 2014. It belonged to a young girl who died during the bombardment. The Math Book is a collection of sculptural forms in cement and sponge, designed to encapsulate the moment of the explosion.

Three Seconds alludes to the average length of a dream: that intense, condensed moment of emotions and memories, of multiple faces and details. This performance is an invitation to journey through the intimate corridors of the performer’s mind, towards her dreams.

Filmmaker and choreographer Eyas Almokdad examines the impact of war violence on intimate relationships. You see loved ones under constant pressure, or struggling with endless loss. Expect a universal story of how violence contaminates human connection.

SAFE begins as a concert and then evolves into a sophisticated audio play. Based on Todd Haynes’ film Safe (1995) – in which a woman suffers increasingly intense allergic reactions – Ictus and Julie Pfleiderer sketch a picture of contemporary hypersensitivity. Join an immersive journey that will stimulate all your senses!
