Twenty-two students from 14 countries are coming to the end of their four-year course at PARTS, the Brussels dance school headed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. They round off their studies with different programmes. A group of eleven students has opted for its own artistic project. In the course of three months they have been working on 2 trios, 1 duet and 3 solos. 

In Student repertoire, the students draw on a wealth of personal work created earlier. This includes revivals of A Love Supreme by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Salva Sanchis, and The Funerals, a creation by Andros Zins-Browne and Tom Pauwels.

Dancers, actors, musicians, set, lighting and costume designers enter into dialogue with one another as equals. One powerful image succeeds another. In Sketches/Notebook, you are repeatedly swept along by the image, movement and music, and are inevitably drawn into this bizarre and intimate ritual.

With scant resources – a bare room, a plastic tarp, naked bodies, water – the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues evokes a torrent of images, a compelling ‘living installation’, plunging us into a utopia. A group of dancers moves between vulnerability and violence, between virginity and destruction.

To celebrate the centenary of the Sacre du Printemps we commissioned Gaëtan Bulourde to write a new version of this impressive work. He created a ‘poor’ but humorous version. A collage of music, text and dance which is similar to the cubist character of Stravinsky’s work.

Three dancers on a metal tower, each at a different level, small platforms from which they can neither see nor touch one another. The dancers are naked except for a T-shirt. The audience walks around the tower and explores the dance from every possible angle. A radical piece of movement theatre! A new double episode in a series of by now legendary dance and music duets by dancer and choreographer Jonathan Burrows and musician and composer Matteo Fargion: a glimpse into the creation of their work as well as a rant about structure, accompanied by live piano pieces and disintegrating cartoons.

WoWmen! - Sabina Toll describes her music as ‘electro with spacy dimensions’. Her influences range widely, from Edith Piaf through Kraftwerk to Nina Simone and Dead Can Dance. And she explores at least as many different directions in the universe with her own sound. She brings WoWmen! to a close with a big bang!

What are the minimal codes a dance performance should comply with? There must be a body. And music. And light. There are two kinds of body, male and female; in their ‘minimal form’: naked. A woman carries light in its most elementary form: a light bulb. Bel reveals himself as ‘a cross between Woody Allen and Jan Fabre’.
