Wed 11.06 - Sat 14.06.14

Dancers, actors, musicians, set, lighting and costume designers enter into dialogue with one another as equals. One powerful image succeeds another. In Sketches/Notebook, you are repeatedly swept along by the image, movement and music, and are inevitably drawn into this bizarre and intimate ritual.

The Karaoke Dialogues
The Karaoke Dialogues
Wed 21.05 - Sat 24.05.14

The Karaoke Dialogues is a comedy in which Linehan applies the choreographic principles of karaoke (you read that right!) to the great classics of the literary and philosophical canon. This American choreographer once again walks the line between dance and non-dance with boundless creativity and much gusto.

Sat 10.05 - Tue 13.05.14

With scant resources – a bare room, a plastic tarp, naked bodies, water – the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues evokes a torrent of images, a compelling ‘living installation’, plunging us into a utopia. A group of dancers moves between vulnerability and violence, between virginity and destruction.

PREMIERE

PREMIERE
PREMIERE
Sat 03.05 - Mon 05.05.14

Maria Hassabi's latest performance raises questions about the notion of 'premiere', that fragile moment when a closed creation process becomes a public product. Five dancers are exhibited in asymmetrical poses between two brightly lit walls. The time of their movements stretched so much that each body becomes a living sculpture.

Thu 24.04 - Fri 25.04.14

To celebrate the centenary of the Sacre du Printemps we commissioned Gaëtan Bulourde to write a new version of this impressive work. He created a ‘poor’ but humorous version. A collage of music, text and dance which is similar to the cubist character of Stravinsky’s work.

Fri 04.04 - Sat 05.04.14

Thirteen years after its premiere, Boris Charmatz dances (untitled) (2000), the last work that the British-German artist and Turner Prize candidate Tino Sehgal created for theatre before he moved on to visual art. The performance seems to sum up this transition between the two art forms. As in a museum of dance, 20th-century dance is exhibited in a theatrical way.

Three dancers on a metal tower, each at a different level, small platforms from which they can neither see nor touch one another. The dancers are naked except for a T-shirt. The audience walks around the tower and explores the dance from every possible angle. A radical piece of movement theatre! An early work by the leading choreographer Boris Charmatz, a radical piece of movement theatre!

The new production by Thomas Hauert was inspired by the radiophonic pieces he used to listen to when he was a child. On stage we see seven dancers and one violist. They cause a short circuit in our rational thinking and immerse us in a sensitive and empathic experience.

What are the minimal codes a dance performance should comply with? There must be a body. And music. And light. There are two kinds of body, male and female; in their ‘minimal form’: naked. A woman carries light in its most elementary form: a light bulb. Bel reveals himself as ‘a cross between Woody Allen and Jan Fabre’.

Thu 06.02 - Fri 07.02.14

Mette Ingvartsen has created a series of four performances in which the question of ‘non-human actions’ in a choreography plays a central role. In The Artificial Nature Project the stage is filled with all kinds of objects and materials, set into motion by the dancers who are part of a swirling mass; a mass of objects that seem to be alive but are not human.
