Sat 10.07.21

During this evening programme, several Belgian persons and collectives with an intersectional and feminist vision will take the floor. They will talk about their discourse, about the new terminology that makes it possible to focus on marginalised living conditions and about the resistance they experience from other feminist movements – mainly from white feminists.

In Other Words
Tue 06.07 - Wed 07.07.21

Is dance a language? And if so, how does it speak? In In Other Words, Ingrid Berger Myhre explores the compatibility between dance and language. With the stage as an empty page, the choreographic writing unfolds as a physical discourse with its own syntax, grammar and vocabulary. With ingenuity and charm, Myhre presents a relativizing take on dance.

Fri 25.06 - Sat 26.06.21

Based on interviews with dancers from the Arab world,Turning Point questions the misunderstandings, ambiguities, stereotypes, metaphors, metamorphoses, fantasies, prejudices and imaginations linked to perceptions of dance in this region. Through movement rooted in the pelvis, manipulation of costume elements, and live electro-percussive music, Nancy Naous questions the spectator's gaze and challenges images rooted in our collective imagination.

Wed 23.06 - Thu 24.06.21

Untitled 14 KM explores how the art world currently approaches the concept of contemporary art in its relation with identity, and specifically Arab identity. Youness Atbane examines this through an enacted dialogue between fictional characters: an Arab-Andalusian poet, a director of the museum of contemporary art, a curator, and an artist. These characters are trying to set up an exhibition that analyzes the concept of modernism.

Sat 29.05 - Sun 30.05.21

If the pandemic has forced artistic processes to be more isolated, in this edition the Kunstenfestivaldesarts has decided to open a temporary and shared artistic residency. For ten days, Dina Mimi, Roland Gunst, Salvatore Calcagno, and Nikima Jagudajev work in four spaces in the Kaaistudios. While each of them works on different research projects, they have moments of collective discussion. The School of Contamination opens the way to another sort of ‘contamination’, and to its importance within the art scene and to its future.

Rabot 4-358 is a documentary performance about the social residential towers of Ghent’s Rabot district and the workshop that existed there for 26 months. This workshop started as a personal initiative of Simon Allemeersch and Wannes Degelin. The performance tells their workshop's story. How come these buildings once had a very good reputation? Who came up with their absurd form? And why are the towers actually being demolished? A story from the inside about housing, economy, poverty and personal fictions.

‘How are you now?’ It is with this question that Rabot 2 begins. In 2010, Simon Allemeersch installed his workshop in one of the dilapidated social housing blocks in the Rabot neighbourhood in Ghent. Now he has made Rabot 2, in which he looks up the people he collaborated with at the time. Starting from individual testimonials, he zooms out to a bigger story about private and public wealth.
