Tentative Assembly (the tent piece)
Fri 04.05 - Mon 07.05.12

Brussels-American dancer and choreographer Eleanor Bauer is a fast-emerging talent on the international dance scene. Her work is an intelligent, humorous reflection of the modern world. In this new piece, she uses body, dance and movement to bring performers and audience
together, enabling them to create a common experiential space.   Tentative Assembly (the tent piece) is the second part of a trilogy that began with A Dance for the Newest Age (the triangle piece), created last year at the Kaaitheater.

Drumming
Wed 25.04 - Sun 29.04.12

Drumming (1998) is undoubtedly one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s most fascinating choreographic works: a dazzling dance set to a powerful score for percussion by Steve Reich, performed. The Ictus Ensemble bring this compelling score to life with breath-taking precision. Drumming is a stunning journey, a wave of pure dance and pure sound, a vortex of life energy.

The dancers Cynthia Loemij (Rosas), Mark Lorimer (Rosas, ZOO) and the cellist Thomas Luks (Il Fondamento, Leporello) enter into a dialogue between sound and movement. For their musical basis they chose 11 Capriccios for cello by Joseph Marie Clément dall’Abaco (1710-1805).

Fri 23.03 - Sat 24.03.12

The intention behind nothing’s for something is to make the
hidden moments in life visible and expose the reality behind the visible
world. Their sources of inspiration are Paul Klee, who danced while he
painted, Rainer Maria Rilke, the perfectionist of form and method, and
Georges Perec, the master of stories of everyday life. In nothing’s for something,
Avdal and Shinozaki go back to their roots and allow the experiences of
their site-specific projects to permeate this production for larger
theatres.

In her latest creation, Cindy Van Acker goes further in her meticulous, almost scientific research into the relations between body and mind, sound and rhythm. Six dancers on the stage. As if in a relay race, they shift their formations into quintets, quartets, trios, duos and sextets.

Fri 20.01 - Sat 21.01.12

A man and a woman on stage. Are they chance passers-by or lovers? They fight, with themselves, with each other, with the finiteness of things, with eternity. Meg Stuart and Philipp Gehmacher let their artistic worlds merge. The Brussels singer-songwriter Niko Hafkenscheid, who joins them on stage, invites them to waltz to ballads and lullabies.

A Dance for the Newest Age (the triangle piece)
Fri 16.12 - Sun 18.12.11

The audience sits on all three sides of an equilateral triangle. In the middle, six dancers circulate. The performance, which premiered at the Kaaitheater last season, is a brilliant piece of choreography on three-part paradigms from science, art and philosophy. A Dance for the Newest Age (the triangle piece) is focused on dance, insatiable and greedy. ‘Everything comes: bring it on!’

Tue 22.11 - Wed 23.11.11

Eleven bodies rolled, washed, tumbled over the stage like a wave, a
flowing movement that remained in motion from beginning to end: Pororoca,
by the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues, was astonishing in its
liveliness, effort and power. And now Rodrigues is returning with a new
creation, again a piece for eleven dancers, which explores in greater
depth the relationships between the group and the individual.

In VIOLET, Meg Stuart returns to movement as the primary motor of her work, pairing abstraction with the personal in an alchemy of the senses. An ensemble of five dancers embarks on a journey of more than an hour, traversing the stage as if it were a mental landscape. VIOLET is a whirl-dance whose energetic currents stir the wavelengths of both dance and imagination.
