You see a robot trying to stand upright. It always falls over again, but does not give up. It cheerfully and indefatigably undergoes the process of trial and error, falling over and picking itself up again.
PERFORMATIK 2015 - Can a piece of choreography be executed in the same form, time, space and conditions of an exhibition? Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker reimagines Vortex Temporum for the radically different conditions of a museal space, i.e. WIELS. She rethinks the performance as a nine weeks long exhibition, continuously performed during regular opening hours.
PERFORMATIK 2015 - With their ritual, circular movements dancing dervishes (Sufi Muslims) attempt to reach a state of religious transcendence. For A Possibility of an Abstraction: Square Dance Germaine Kruip asked the dervishes to break through the circle and introduce square patterns into the dance ritual.
PERFORMATIK 2015 - In her work Grace Schwindt often deals with historical events and social relations. She also interweaves fiction and non-fiction. For Performatik 2015, Argos has selected recent works from their collection, which will be shown at their exhibition space. The new film Only a Free Individual Can Create a Free Society will be premiered at the Kaaistudios.
Arnold Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht (1899) is inspired by a poem by Richard Dehmel, about a woman who tells the man she loves she is pregnant by another man. In 1995 Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created a group choreography based on Schönberg’s composition. She has now rewritten the piece as a duet. A shameless romantic love story in the dark light of a Verklärte Nacht (transfigured night).
Burning Ice - The Botanical Gardens houses the oldest European seed bank. It keeps the seeds of rare indigenous wild plants and there is a particular focus on its collection of wild beans and fabaceous plants. It is only very exceptionally that it is possible to have a guided tour of this unique seed bank.
Dancing in the sand. That is Dansand! This dance festival offers a lot of great stuff on and adjacent to the beach at Ostend: dance solos, group choreographies, duets with live music, performances, improvisations, workshops, happenings, etc.
PERFORMATIK 2015 - Double meanings, humour and crossing borders are characteristic of the work of visual artist Benoît Félix. During Performatik he shows seven video performances. In them he plays the role of someone who makes or draws something; he then shows how the object or drawing goes its own way, independently of its creator.
Even walking is a pure form of dance! Rosas organizes an extended flashmob, in which you walk from the gates of the Brussels pentagon to the Grand Place at a glacial pace. Participate in a workshop – headed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker herself – which shifts gears into a real dance party.
