performance

Sat 29.06.19

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — We are shaped by an infinity of reflections, like a rainbow. This immersive installation – literally – reflects our differences and multiple identities. Inspired by The Conference of the Birds by the Persian poet Farid ud-Din Attar, Fakoor reflects on the myth of a clear-cut national identity and the celebration of difference.

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — Kasper Vandenberghe climbs on a scaffolding clad in a protective suit and then drops down like a rock. It is calculated recklessness. It is a poetic search for how vulnerable we can still allow ourselves to be and how we can understand vulnerability as a force. It is dancing on the loose rope between two deeply human desires: the desire for balance versus a bottomless leap into the unknown.

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — A landscape is intrinsically related to a perspective. It is created by both an individual view and a common knowledge about certain elements visible in a landscape. This salon invites festival artists whose practice revolves around the concept of landscape to share their perspectives. Seeking to find connections between these different point of views, Kosi Hidama’s interior landscape Garden of solid subtleness will provide the setting for a collective thinking process on the notion of landscape in contemporary art dramaturgy.

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — This duet is an insight into the never-ending process of being together. Dan Mussett and Laurent Delom try to achieve a unity which is beyond both of them individually. It is an invitation to witness their journey as they become each other’s teacher, shadow, student, friend, mirror, brother, rival and colleague all at once and at the same time blurring the boundaries that separate the one from the other.

Fri 28.06.19

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — Within a series of small compositions, bodies are placed and displaced in relation to each other. Playing with weight and balance, they counterbalance and shape the space between them. In the margin of the performance, Wouter Krokaert also shows the visual work that underlies it. What is explored in one area is reinforced and supplemented in another, across the boundaries of disciplines.

Fri 28.06 - Fri 28.06.19

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — Do people treat plants with enough respect? What happens when plants break out of the background of our living rooms? Gosie Vervloessem calls on a number of horror movies in which plants frighten us. Sometimes they attack us head-on, but often the horror lies in ominously waving branches and rustling bushes. According to the artist the exploitative human-vegetal relation comes to a climax in the nature reserve, the plantation and the botanical garden. Places with a direct link to a colonial past.

Fri 28.06 - Sat 29.06.19

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — Hidden at the basement of workspacebrussels, lies Kosi Hidama’s atelier. Occupying the space over the past few years, his work slowly started invading all the other spaces of the building. With Garden of solid subtleness Kosi will create an interior summer garden with the ceramics he produced at his basement atelier, in combination with subtle sounds. The artist invited his friend Misha Downey to work with him on this pottery landscape.

Sat 08.06 - Mon 10.06.19

Get to know the latest generation of theatre-makers. In June, three theatre students from the RITCS will be presenting their graduation productions at the Kaaistudios. Not mine and other stories invites you to take a seat at the table. A table at which stories of a generation of twenty-somethings pass by. Young people with an opinion, who coincidently cross each other’s path in the city. Or is there more to it than coincidence?

Uncanny Valley

production

Thu 30.05 - Sat 01.06.19

Rimini Protokoll had a humanoid robot created that looks exactly like playwright Thomas Melle. This lifelike mechanical doppelganger takes the place of the human original onstage. But what happens to the original when the copy takes everything over? Are the copy and the original doomed to compete with one another or will they collaborate? And do we as viewers feel as much empathy for a human as for a machine?

Tue 21.05 - Mon 27.05.19

In the growing series Simple as ABC, Thomas Bellinck focuses on the Western migration management machine. This third instalment takes you to an imagined museum where there are only voices. You hear scraps of Arabic, English, Farsi, French, and Greek, gathered around the Mediterranean Sea. The absent narrators share their stories and thus sketch a many-voiced portrait of the contemporary hunt for humans.

Thu 25.04 - Sat 27.04.19

Dance and choreography leaves traces on your body, and they are often physical and concrete: growing muscles or the trauma of injuries. But the repetition and memory of movements also leave traces. The choreographies of the past continue to dwell in the dancer’s body. In the solo Body of Work, Daniel Linehan explores these traces in his own body.

According to Dutch philosopher Thijs Lijster, in today’s complex world, we increasingly think of society as an ‘outside world’. Against the idea that history is something which happens to us, he champions the collective ability to make history.
