Wed 15.06 - Thu 16.06.22

Sometime in the not-so-distant future, two friends meet in a forest. Michel, just back from two years of deep mindfulness in an ashram, have been keeping up with the news. Taylor hurries to tell him about his adventures with the 'Context and Modality Platform', a kind of political party that – as an out-of-control joke and against all odds – has ended up at the gates of power. Have Taylor and his friends managed to stay true to their ideals?

bodies of knowledge (BOK) considers the city as a rich source of valuable knowledge. Every passer- by could teach you something from their own background and life-experiences. BOK seeks to share this invisibilized or suppressed knowledge through oral transmission, that potentially could give rise to a socially more just society. The Big BOK Multiplication tells the story of one and a half year of BOK in Brussels. It's the gathering of a learning community, and an encounter with a living corpus of non-dominant knowledge. Feel welcome to join and learn along.

How Large is a Person?

How Large is a Person?
How Large is a Person?

talk

Tue 14.12.21

During this evening, we will explore how human personhood has been constructed, and how it can be decentered and made to expand into different ways of seeing and being. The rational, universal individual has violently suppressed mutable persons existing at the intersection of multiple beings, as well as collective and interspecies ways of building knowledge that persist in the sciences, though often unrecognized. Underneath the steamroller of modernity, we will discover many possibilities for a more convivial future.

How to Turn to Stone

How to Turn to Stone
How to Turn to Stone

theatre

Thu 25.11 - Fri 26.11.21

A play that behaves like a stone: what would that look like? What form would a 'mineral' representation take? In How to Turn to Stone, stones, as 'non-living' things, are models for a different kind of resistance. Manuela Infante brings pieces of eroded stories together. The fragments become landscapes and she stacks those landscapes like geological rock layers. This creates a 'mineral' representation telling you something about what is written in stones, and what stones have written in us.

Dare to Care

Dare to Care
Dare to Care

talk

Sun 24.10.21

The global Covid crisis brought healthcare into the spotlight. But care extends beyond the strictly medical: it includes everything we do to preserve and restore the world. Can care be a new starting point, based on connectedness and generosity? Can care, as an emancipatory principle, underpin politics and economics? Ecopolis 2021 makes room for these questions, and many more, during a day of lectures, conversations, workshops, literature and performance.

talk

Tue 19.10.21

During this evening we will focus on tendrilesque writing. What happens to human speech if vines enter our flesh, roots crawl through our veins, and we turn into hybrid plant monsters? What happens if we let plants speak through us and what kind of new language, new bits of knowledge and new worlds can emerge from there? We will explore these topics while focusing on the status of women, and their relation to plants, as presented in works of fiction in which the distinction between women and plants becomes blurry.

Sat 11.09 - Sat 11.12.21

How can you create a safe space in public space for the exchange of various forms of repressed or underexposed knowledge? This is the basic principle of bodies of knowledge (BOK), Sarah Vanhee's alternative school, that stays in the same spot in the city for a few weeks or months, and then moves again. From September 18, BOK will be installed in the centre of Brussels for three months. You can take part in a free programme every week, whether it be a walk, a workshop, a game or a read-aloud.

Fri 10.09 - Sat 11.09.21

Ræv rehearsal* invites you to rehearse new forms of coming together. Glow shoes, flashing lights, portable audio sculptures, a mobile speaker system and of course: you. These are the ingredients for a new kind of manifestation, a rehearsal in which the participants jointly create a movable light show to a techno beat. How do you get movement patterns going in a crowd? What movements unleash energy and a sense of freedom?

Forces of Nature follows a movement of an articulate and complex organism composed of five persons with different energies and ideas. Their desires might not be the same, but they have a common goal: the construction of a shared physical and imaginary space.

Sat 28.08 - Sun 29.08.21

Listen Here: These Woods is a literal invitation to go into nature. Set to the soundtrack of the forest, of wind rustling through the leaves and birds zipping by in the branches, the forest is these five dancers’ home, as they draw you into feeling its dynamic aliveness. The performance becomes a beautiful exchange between forest, dance, and audience, as we all momentarily share space with other living creatures in nature. A show for anyone who wants to strengthen their connection with nature!
