In 2006 Jan Decorte staged his first opera, Dido and Aeneas by the English baroque composer Henry Purcell. Together with the English conductor Richard Egarr and a select cast, Decorte made it an unforgettable event. De Morgen: ‘A gem of simplicity, rightness and emotion.’

One of the high points of last season was the performance of Georges Aperghis’ breathtaking 14 Récitations. Aperghis is joining us again this season, with Avis de tempête, a ‘miraculous, hallucinatory’ piece of musical theatre, first performed by Ictus at the Opéra de Lille in 2004. It was directed by Aperghis himself. Le Figaro: ‘Une oeuvre d’art totale.’

Beverly and Laurent, a respectable couple, give a cocktail party in honour of the new neighbours. After several rounds it becomes difficult to keep things agreeable.  Abigail’s Party is a biting comedy written in the style of a soap by Mike Leigh. Tristero has made a wonderfully kitsch version of it in a pure seventies style. This season we will be presenting the play for the fifth time. A classic!

The Roman tragedies – Coriolanus, Julius Caesar and Antony & Cleopatra – are William Shakespeare’s most political plays. Ivo van Hove directs them in two parts spread over two evenings, and in a marathon version lasting six hours. The audience can go in and out and take a break at will on the stage, where drinks and snacks are also available.
