Thu 14.06.12

Jolika Sudermann and Alma Söderberg noticed that when we speak to each other we are actually singing and dancing with each other. A Talk is a light but virtuoso game of word compositions and language improvisation, performed by a charming and refreshing female duo!

Wed 06.06 - Sat 09.06.12

The Extra Sensorial Garden is a fictional garden that has been artificially created to stimulate the visitor’s sensory system and evoke strong physical experiences. There is not always a lot to see, but instead there’s a lot to be sensed.

performance

Fri 08.06 - Sat 09.06.12

The Swedish-German performance artist Eva Meyer-Keller is obsessed with food. In Death is certain (in the Kaaistudio’s in 2007) she condemned a number of vegetables to death. Now she’s cooking up a series of disasters. She will be bringing them to you live, using soup, juice, sauce and other ingredients. How hungry does an earthquake make you?

FREEZE!
FREEZE!

performance

Fri 08.06 - Fri 08.06.12

Very occasionally, something makes your hair stand on end. Nick Steur’s FREEZE! is just such a performance: small in scale, big on ideas. Nick Steur creates a pile of natural stones. He doesn’t use any glue or trickery, just intense concentration and ‘a balance between my own willpower and that of the stone’.  FREEZE!, won the KBC Young Theatre Prize 2011 at Theater Aan Zee.

Opening Night - The Austrian actress Anna Mendelssohn incorporates dozens of talks, debates and interviews about climate change into a monologue that explores the full complexity of the subject. A mosaic of meanings that both moves us and makes us think, thanks to the richness of her theatrical talent.

Tue 17.04 - Wed 18.04.12

What is personal? How do you present it or express it in artistic work? Christine De Smedt took these and other questions to fellow choreographers Jonathan Burrows, Alain Platel, Xavier Le Roy and Eszter Salomon. On the basis of these interviews, she created portraits of four artists which evolve into a portrait of herself.

Fri 10.02 - Sat 11.02.12

For the past ten years the choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer
Matteo Fargion have been creating a furore with their deceptively simple
but humorous, virtuoso duets where dance and music enter into an
exciting relationship. Counting to One Hundred completes their second trilogy and plays breathtakingly with rhythm and counterpoint.

Wed 08.02.12

For the past ten years the choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer
Matteo Fargion have been creating a furore with their deceptively simple
but humorous, virtuoso duets where dance and music enter into an
exciting relationship. Cheap Lecture is a rhythmic spoken performance set to
music, a tirade about empty hands, audiences, time, repetition and dance
and a few other things. The Cow Piece plays with text, movement and sounds, but also with objects.

Spoken World - Character Witness takes as its starting-point the autobiographies
of historical figures such as Malcolm X, Hillary Clinton, Margaret
Thatcher and Ariel Sharon. They each explain or justify some of their
controversial political decisions on the basis of childhood experiences.
Their stories are merged into a single speech, which will be delivered
by three actors.

Fri 07.10 - Sat 08.10.11

In Ideography the dancer and choreographer Noé Soulier links the philosophical to the artistic. He aims to combine ideas and lines of reasoning which at first sight have little to do with each other. To compose this ‘mixed’ discourse Soulier uses strategies from music, dance and film.

Expanding Energy

Expanding Energy
Expanding Energy

performance

Sat 08.10.11

We are obsessed with energy. It guides our thoughts and actions, though
we are not always aware of it. Davis Freeman has created four performances on this topic,
midway between a stand-up comedy show, a conference, a piece of
choreography and a concert. He is aided in this by actors from Forced
Entertainment, musicians from Einstürzende Neubauten etc.
We are showing the four parts in a single day. You can watch them all in
succession (with a snack in between) or just choose the one(s) you want
to see.
