NBH (Natural Born Healer)

dance performance

NBH (Natural Born Healer)
NBH (Natural Born Healer)
Sun 11.07.21

NBH (Natural Born Healer) is a poetic solo performance, halfway between fiction and autobiography. Jihan Imago speaks of homelessness, of a long journey of healing, of a tragic destiny where the protagonist escapes death and sets out to meet himself. One walks there as in a dream inspired by David Lynch's cinema.

Sat 10.07.21

A cosy evening with music, visuals and poetry, in which Monica Kamara invites fellow female artists to share their experiences of getting hurt and the healing process that follows. Because healing is a process which happens within, but does not have to be done alone.

“19” is a multidisciplinary performance that tackles themes such as survival, passing, marginalisation, money, age and identity. The performance focuses on different concepts such as norms, gender, body, social status and privilege. Alex started with poetry slam and went to the open stages in Brussels, and now wants to find his way as an artist and a young adult.

newpolyphonies
newpolyphonies
Sat 03.07 - Sun 04.07.21

Inspired by insects, climate marches and airplane traffic coming to a halt, the leitmotif in this concert/performance is not the loud collective chant, but the experience that each individual – like a link in a chain – can set a vortex of sounds in motion. In newpolyphonies, four singers of HYOID join forces with 15 performers in a curious high mass about little differences with big impact.

A nublo

performance

A nublo
A nublo
Fri 25.06 - Sat 26.06.21

According to an old Spanish folk tradition, villagers used to cry directly into the cloudy sky to ward off an approaching storm. With a canticle, they tried to scare away lightning and turn hail into raindrops. A nublo! This performance without players places you in the eye of the storm and in the middle of an intense sensory experience, in a landscape that is halfway between the scenography of an opera and a cloudy valley, between geology and an amusement park. The characters you meet there are neither people nor animals, neither monsters nor gods, but rather natural phenomena.

Youness Atbane

Untitled 14 KM

performance installation

Untitled 14 KM
Untitled 14 KM
Wed 23.06 - Thu 24.06.21

Untitled 14 KM explores how the art world currently approaches the concept of contemporary art in its relation with identity, and specifically Arab identity. Youness Atbane examines this through an enacted dialogue between fictional characters: an Arab-Andalusian poet, a director of the museum of contemporary art, a curator, and an artist. These characters are trying to set up an exhibition that analyzes the concept of modernism.

The new wave of Israeli violence against the inhabitants of the Palestinian territories deserves a response. By bombing Palestinian civilians, Israel again (and with the support of the US) tries to crush resistance. But the Palestinians continue to fight for their liberation. This edition of By any Beats necessary is about that resistance by artists and activists. Because here in Belgium too, decolonisation means nothing without the liberation of Palestine.

Sat 13.03.21

On the anniversary of the lockdown on Saturday, Still Standing for Culture will again make itself heard. They are not demanding an immediate reopening of the cultural sector, but rather a fair implementation and distribution of the Corona measures. Together with the Belgian cultural sector, Kaaitheater is taking to the streets in the good company of K.A.K. & CREW. Their shouting-robot intervention The Unheard will make a highly symbolic and overwhelming noise. Do you want to join in?

By any beats necessary: stop police impunity
Sun 28.02.21

This year, two young men have already lost their lives in a Brussels police station: Ibrahima Barrie and Ilyes Abbedou. When around 100 demonstrators took to the streets to protest against police impunity, 245 people were brutally arrested, many of them passers-by. And for the first time, a police union broke the culture of silence. On Sunday, Headquarters of the Movement invited several dancers and spoken word artists to give a voice to victims of police violence.

Job
Tue 26.01 - Thu 28.01.21

Borrowing elements from role-playing and escape rooms, Job is an online game performance in which you are remotely commanding a live avatar. The performance unfolds as a puzzle-solving narrative, located in the storage and technical rooms of Kaaitheater. Job explores the possibility of an avatar to ‘prefer not to’ follow your commands, and addresses the difficulty artists face towards the demand for increasing production and efficiency.

Sat 26.09 - Sat 26.09.20

SAFE premiered in the Kaaistudios in 2018, long before the corona-crisis. Today, Julie Pfleiderer’s performance feels strangely consistent with our lives. The current pandemic is causing waves of bacillophobia and fear of infection in our society. Based on Todd Haynes’ film Safe (1995) – in which a woman suffers increasingly intense allergic reactions – Ictus and Julie Pfleiderer sketch a picture of contemporary hypersensitivity. Join an immersive journey that will stimulate all your senses!
