De verbouwing
Wed 25.06 - Sat 05.07.14

Ylka and Thomas are having their house renewed. Two renovators are at work there for months. During their coffee breaks, they discuss the coming stages. In the background radio Contact is playing, the coffee is served lukewarm, there are no more cookies and, between the lines, a bit of discomfort weaves itself into place. De verbouwing (The Renovation) is a sublime blend of humour and sadness.

Sat 14.06.14

Me, Myself & We. This was the title of a series of performances and talks we have presented in the season that is now approaching its end. The thread running through it all was ‘collectivity versus individualism’. Wouter Hillaert (rekto:verso) looks back together with choreographer Meg Stuart, Anoek Nuyens, Veridiana Zurita, Kristof van Baarle and Kate McIntosh. And you can join in at the table.

Dancers, actors, musicians, set, lighting and costume designers enter into dialogue with one another as equals. One powerful image succeeds another. In Sketches/Notebook, you are repeatedly swept along by the image, movement and music, and are inevitably drawn into this bizarre and intimate ritual.

In the film The Rabbit and the Teasel, integrally shot in the Irish countryside, fiction and autobiographical elements are interwoven into a lyrical tale that drags the viewer into a world of beauty, death, and decay. Documentary maker and artist Els Dietvorst paints a picture of the human condition in Ireland today as well as of man and nature in the 21st century.

Dancing and living together
Sun 11.05.14

How can we live together in the same space and integrate with the ‘other’ through dance and movement? How can we affect an encounter while carefully securing everyone’s particular place within the group? From Rio de Janeiro to Brussels, this is a ‘social’ approach to movement.

Sat 10.05 - Tue 13.05.14

With scant resources – a bare room, a plastic tarp, naked bodies, water – the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues evokes a torrent of images, a compelling ‘living installation’, plunging us into a utopia. A group of dancers moves between vulnerability and violence, between virginity and destruction.

Flanders is experiencing the hype of independence. Which will prevail, confederation or separatism? The book Wereldvreemd in Vlaanderen (Out of Touch with Reality in Flanders) cuts across these concerns. On the basis of an analysis of the new world order, the authors argue for progressive politics on several scales.
