Jérôme Bel is committed to the creation of a series of pieces assembled under the generic term Gala. How do we touch without touching one another? Four dancers explore the memory and the limits of the body and the mind’s connections. The spectator inhabits the same imaginative space as the performers and becomes part of an empathetic, imagined touch.

Choreographer Cindy Van Acker starts her new solo with sentences and images she derives from Friedrich Nietzsche. Another source of inspiration is the tortured bodies and anatomical figures in the work of Berlinde De Bruyckere. And the first definition of the word chaos: a new emptiness, a new nothing.

Thu 02.04 - Fri 03.04.15

Since 2001 dancer and choreographer Trajal Harrell has created five wonderful performances in which he allows postmodern dance and the popular voguing dance style, both from the sixties, to sniff around each other. Antigone Sr. is the culminating work. Harrell examines the relationship between the voguing tradition and classical Greek theatre, in which men played both male and female roles.

PERFORMATIK 2015 DOUBLE BILL - Body Not Fit For Purpose is the first overtly political work of choreographer Jonathan Burrows and musician Matteo Fargion. Its starting point is the uselessness of dancing to express anything of any real concern and at the same time the inherent, gloriously foolish radicality of the attempt. With sequenza, artist Manon de Boer and violinist and composer George van Dam present a programme of live performances and films around four compositions for solo violin

Stef Kamil Carlens has a thing about Dada. This concert performance is based on a film reconstructing a Dadaist performance at the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, held in 1916. It contains all the elements that are used in Nothing That Is Everything: costumes, dance, music, rhythm, poetry, a confusion (of tongues) and humour. For this new performance Zita Swoon Group is collaborating with Jan Lauwers' Needcompany.

A magical, sensual, almost psychedelic performance in which the bodies of the dancers, materials, light and sound play an equally important role. Nine dancers, as one strong community, enter into a confrontation with ropes, cables and high platforms in this first group choreography by the Swedish-Dutch choreographer Jefta van Dinther.

Thu 26.02 - Fri 27.02.15

Two dancers appear on stage. They make noises, touch one another, move, explore each other’s bodies and so, in a ping-pong game of question and answer, invent a language – language as a ‘by-product’ of any artistic or love relationship. - Both shows have been cancelled due to injury.

The French choreographer Rachid Ouramdane has created a ‘sfumato’ choreography in which the scenes flow into one another and the boundaries of the bodies appear to dissolve. The dancers evolve in a landscape of mist and rain. The choreography is a metaphor for the loss of habitats, the exile to unknown places, the memory that remains..

Following a series of duets and a quartet, the dancer and theatre-maker Pieter Ampe is going solo. During a stay in New York he immersed himself in a world of transformations in which emancipation, and sexual and emotional energy go hand in hand. Although he may well seduce the audience with grand gestures, a gentle swaying of the hips also suggests regained sensuality.

In Prelude, they work with Norwegian vocalist Stine Janvin Motland. With her use of extended vocal technique, Motland explores the limits of the human voice, entering into dialogue with the amplified elements present on stage. Has the body become an extension of technology?
