On the occasion of his creation of The Blind Poet, director Jan Lauwers and former VRT journalist Jef Lambrecht conduct a public conversation about the hysteria of history.

How do we touch without touching one another? Four dancers explore the memory and the limits of the body and the mind’s connections. The spectator inhabits the same imaginative space as the performers and becomes part of an empathetic, imagined touch.

The bas-relief Les passions humaines by the sculptor Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908) created a commotion in royal circles and the church authorities who described it as ‘blasphemous’ and ‘pornographic’. Guy Cassiers uses the work of art as the main character in a Belgian docudrama with a bilingual cast and a text by Erwin Mortier.

The Middle Ages does not pose the question of who or what we are, but when we are. When is now? Through an exuberant use of costumes and a rigorous study of movement the performance attempts to assume a place and time in which historical references overlap. Five dancers travel through time and the history of movement.

It is war. Always war. It's war in the cells. This intimate war is everywhere. At micro and macro levels, and without limitation in time or space. If we are surrounded by an incessant battlefield, of which war is the theatre the setting? Tristero and Transquinquennal are expecting you. With an open mind!

Eleanor Bauer calls the second season of her BAUER HOUR ‘the dance season’. This edition's guest is the Brussels-New York dancer Michael Helland. He has worked with, among others, Xavier Le Roy, Daniel Linehan, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Tino Sehgal, Marina Abramović, Big Art Group, Ivo Dimchev and Bauer herself. Together with Eleanor he prepares a very special treat for the audience. 

Artist Pieter Van den Bosch created five publicly accessible fire constructions, including one during Festival Kanal in Brussels; five variations of ‘attack situations’, devoid of any intrinsic or other threat. Against the physical performance, a central focus of his exhibition is the opportunity to look at the images.

Verhelst XL is an attempt to make theatre that ‘creates peaceful surroundings’. Places where you can think, grieve, enjoy, look around at leisure. Places for new rituals. Author and director Peter Verhelst and letter sculptor Maud Bekaert worked on this together with artists such as Johan Tahon, Dirk Braeckman, Cristina Iglesias, Lili Dujourie and Helmut Stallaerts.

BRIGHT flirts with the near-darkness and sharpens your senses. Phosphorescent delusions/images stimulate your imagination.
