Please note: this show has been cancelled to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

Tafukt is a dance solo and the first part of a trilogy focused on semantics and mythologies of the Imazighen – the indigenous population of Northern Africa. Can performance function as a tool of resistance? Radouan Mriziga seeks to create a space for reflections on the past in order to strive for a more inclusive future.

Every age has its wonders of the world: the impossible that people still manage to build – bigger and more impressive than anything we’d seen before. But how remarkable is the small body that invents and creates all these colossuses? In 7, Radouan Mriziga juxtaposes two benchmarks: the built environment, made to impress, and the ultimate wonder of the world: the human body itself.

Human Landscapes II
Fri 29.11 - Sat 30.11.19

In the late 1920s, Nâzım Hikmet introduced free verse to Turkish poetry, and he was thus the first modern Turkish poet. He wrote the majority of Human Landscapes, his magnum opus, while in prison. The five hundred-page epic was only published posthumously, divided into five ‘books’. Michiel Vandevelde staged Book I last year, commissioned by steierische herbst. Book II now follows.

Trials of Money
Thu 14.11 - Fri 15.11.19

‘Money rules the world,’ it is sometimes said. Is money responsible for what has happened in the world under its governance? Can we call it to account for the horrifying situations in which many people find themselves today? Christophe Meierhans invites you to join him in an exploration of what money is and does. Last season, he premiered Trials of Money. He is now presenting a revised solo version.

Ends of worlds
Ends of worlds
Thu 04.04 - Fri 05.04.19

How can we say something about the future through the lens of the past? Michiel Vandevelde examines the recent history of western modern and contemporary dance, from Isadora Duncan to Anna Halprin. In five speculative acts about the past from the future, the present is inevitably reflected upon. This way, choreography becomes a form of science-fiction.

cancelled - In the Sky I am Walking
Tue 15.01 - Wed 16.01.19

Due to productional reasons, this performance is postponed.

The vocal ensemble HYOID and artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater Benjamin Vandewalle are adapting Indianerlieder (1972) by Karlheinz Stockhausen, an iconic but rarely performed work. They are creating a gesamtkunstwerk that aims to reveal the vitality and timelessness of Stockhausen’s music. They are abandoning the original scenography in order to place the audience at the very centre of the three-dimensional ritual.

Along with other visitors, but without speaking, you will experiment with materials in a series of sensorial ‘situations’. In Many Hands is part laboratory, part expedition, part meditation: follow your nose and your curiosity!

Artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater Michiel Vandevelde is touring four cities with his Precarious Pavilions. In each city, he builds a pavilion with a different artist, each time asking the question: ‘How do we deal with space and architecture in this unstable world?’ For his second pavilion in Brussels, choreographer Michiel Vandevelde and the collective 431 are coming to the Place de la Monnaie.

Trials of Money
Trials of Money
Wed 18.04 - Thu 19.04.18

Trials of Money turns the theatre into a court of justice which does not yet exist. You’re invited to take part in the Special Tribunal for Semi-Human Persons in order to undertake the trial of the thing called ‘money’. The trial is conducted as a collective exercise: while the performers deliver their testimonies, they will respond to any question the audience has. Should money be found guilty, it leaves us with a very problematic question: what could be a just sentence?

If it is true that money rules the world, then perhaps time has come for it to account for its acts. It is therefore not in an attempt to bribe a magistrate that Christophe Meierhans is bringing money to court, but on the contrary, in order to offer it a fair trial: Is money itself the culprit for having brought the world to the catastrophic state it is in now, or has it rather been employed to the design of ill-intentionned individuals?
