Read the Room is the kick-off of a biennial collaboration between Mophradat and Kaaitheater. For three days you are invited for a programme around 'the mother'. On the second day of the festival, you can see the work of Anouchka Oler Nussbaum, Alaa Abu Asad and Bekriah Mawasi, and Noor Abed.

For this extra-large edition of the Open Studios, workspacebrussels has mapped out a museum-like route throughout their spaces and the neighbouring Kaaistudios. As you discover both buildings from sides you haven’t seen before, you will be surprised by installations, sculptures and videos set up in unexpected places. But the experience doesn’t end there: you are also invited to a curated walk in the city, a WhatsApp-performance, and unannounced interventions in public space.

To give voice to is part of a research on the female voice. 70% of women speak with a higher pitch than their normal range. The pitch is connected to attractiveness, empathy, innocence, femininity and authority. This video reflects upon the idea of a siren (becoming a siren) through the character of a female police officer. 

Starting from linguist George Lakoff's archetypes to describe the dynamics between politicians and citizens, Liz Magic Laser has made a colourful instructional video for a political dance therapy.

Inspired by the hymn Say No!, more than 30 choirs and ensembles from across the world have created their own song about conscientious objection and desertion. All the contributed images and sounds form the material for a video creation, intertwined with a live performance by a huge international choir.

In this video installation, Els Dietvorst allows the residents of a small Irish fishing village to speak. The pressure caused by European fishing quotas threatens the village’s survival. Dietvorst sets the deeply human individual stories against the backdrop of the wider European political and economic situation.

The ethical standards with which we treat animals have been the subject of considerable research. But are animals also capable of political action? Philosopher and animal theorist Fahim Amir tells surprising stories about the role of animals in the history of humankind.

Box with holes seeks to explore the relationship between touch and its visualisation. How do we see and experience inter- human interaction in a world where we contact each other more and more through technology?
Box with holes focuses on a displacement of the senses, which places the spectator into another mental state.

The videos and writings of Els Dietvorst explore themes such as social conflict and survival in the margins. Art-Coeur-Merci is a film installation about a young Cameroonian man trying to survive in Brussels, with the addition of a performance by Angélique Wilkie. They make us reflect on the essential things in life.
