Thu 15.04 - Fri 16.04.21

For this extra-large edition of the Open Studios, workspacebrussels has mapped out a museum-like route throughout their spaces and the neighbouring Kaaistudios. As you discover both buildings from sides you haven’t seen before, you will be surprised by installations, sculptures and videos set up in unexpected places. But the experience doesn’t end there: you are also invited to a curated walk in the city, a WhatsApp-performance, and unannounced interventions in public space.

Tue 03.03 - Sun 08.03.20

Jimmy Robert brought five performers together in Bucharest. Together, they perform various choreographic sketches along the road from the People’s House to the Cathedral of National Salvation. It is a queer act of resistance that undermines the power of politics and religion.

Mon 02.03 - Sat 07.03.20

To give voice to is part of a research on the female voice. 70% of women speak with a higher pitch than their normal range. The pitch is connected to attractiveness, empathy, innocence, femininity and authority. This video reflects upon the idea of a siren (becoming a siren) through the character of a female police officer.

video

Wed 20.03 - Sat 23.03.19

Blind Spot is a quest to find what scarce traces remain of Epp Kotkas, an Estonian artist who was active in the experimental dance scene of New York in the 60s and 70s. Talve combines fact and fiction to tell the story of an artist who was totally unknown in her home country. What you witness is an essayistic memory that attempts to reconstruct an unrecorded past.

Fri 03.02 - Sat 04.02.17

Inspired by an old map of the Middle East – which clearly shows how many cross-border train connections there once were, Dictaphone Group went on a research mission along the entirely disused railway network in modern-day Lebanon. Nothing to Declare is about the meaning of borders within Lebanon, borders with the neighbouring countries and borders in the Arab world.

Four big screens show a busy street in Jerusalem’s Old Town and the everyday situations that take place there. You hear a voice-over in which Western expats informally – and occasionally even brashly – talk about a culture that is foreign to them.

In this video installation, Els Dietvorst allows the residents of a small Irish fishing village to speak. The pressure caused by European fishing quotas threatens the village’s survival. Dietvorst sets the deeply human individual stories against the backdrop of the wider European political and economic situation.

Box with holes seeks to explore the relationship between touch and its visualisation. How do we see and experience inter- human interaction in a world where we contact each other more and more through technology?
Box with holes focuses on a displacement of the senses, which places the spectator into another mental state.

Thu 12.12 - Fri 13.12.13

The city is in constant movement, as passers-by involuntarily create duets, trios, choruses,... A person standing still in the moving city appears to be the main character of a short crossroad scene. In this project, Ariane Loze looks for a new continuity of the city through a montage technique that falls back on choreographic principles. Can editing be dance? And how does editing move?

Are we just bystanders of ephemeral performances that wither away in the public space?
