Sun 23.03.14

Fifth atmospheric ‘lounge concert’ by Ictus. The main guest is the marvellous composer Eva Reiter along with her Viennese colleagues Thomas List (recorder) and Theresa Dlouhy (soprano). New works are alternated with sophisticated 14th-century polyphonic music (so-called Ars Subtilior). No need for ear plugs!

WoWmen! - Sabina Toll describes her music as ‘electro with spacy dimensions’. Her influences range widely, from Edith Piaf through Kraftwerk to Nina Simone and Dead Can Dance. And she explores at least as many different directions in the universe with her own sound. She brings WoWmen! to a close with a big bang!

Tue 18.02.14

Ictus commissioned five composers to write a new work: a piece for the instruments typical of pop music and with the length of a pop song, but which is most definitely not a pop song. Michaël Levinas, Georges Aperghis, Eva Reiter, Jean-Luc Fafchamps and Kaaitheater artist in residence Eleanor Bauer, together with her musical sparring partner Chris Peck, have taken on the challenge.

Fri 24.01 - Sat 25.01.14

Following radical adaptations that include La Divina Commedia and The Old Testament, FC Bergman now turns to another literary classic, the epic animal poem Van den vos Reynaerde (Reynard the Fox). Liesa Van der Aa and Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop put this journey/quest to music. Josse De Pauw provides the words. Dirk Roofthooft, Viviane De Muynck and Gregory Frateur also participate.

Drumming (1998) is undoubtedly one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s most fascinating choreographic works: a dazzling dance set to a powerful score for percussion by Steve Reich, performed. The Ictus Ensemble bring this compelling score to life with breath-taking precision. Drumming is a stunning journey, a wave of pure dance and pure sound, a vortex of life energy.

Fri 13.12 - Sat 14.12.13

The performances and installations by Gisèle Vienne shift the boundaries between appearance and reality and so open ‘another’ world. In The Pyre it consists of a dancer and a boy, in a metropolis at night. Abstract dance, tableau vivant and theatrical narration to a fascinating soundscape.

In MCBTH, director Guy Cassiers continues his ‘anatomy of power’. Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s darkest plays. The intense interaction of word, image and music reveals the cruel poetry of the play.

Wed 06.11 - Sat 09.11.13

For many years now Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker has been fascinated by Vortex Temporum, a late work by the French composer Gérard Grisey. Dancers and musicians work together in a choreographic counterpoint of sounds, musicians’ gestures, dancers’ movements and spatial dynamics. In Vortex Temporum, the Ictus music ensemble and Rosas collaborate for the tenth time.

Sun 08.09.13

BL!NDMAN’s saxophones play monumental organ compositions by Bach. By doubling up with Tubax (a sort of combination of tuba and sax) and electronics, BL!NDMAN generates the extra-low notes that are characteristic of the 32-foot pipes of large organs. BL!NDMAN becomes one big human organ, set in motion by breath.
