In Children of the Sun, Maxim Gorky (1868-1936) portrays several intellectuals who have withdrawn from society and dedicated themselves to science, art and love, but realise too late that their ideas do not square with reality. Ivo Van Hove directs the piece as a reflection on the position of the intelligentsia in society today.

The legendary Discordia will present two productions in the Kaaistudios. In Marionett, Discordia appears to allow the audience to pull the strings: indeed the actors present themselves as puppets. They use the puppet-show as a metaphor for free will: ‘to what extent do you play yourself or are you played?’?

Theatre-maker and artist Kris Verdonck combines one ‘old’ and one ‘new’ performance. Part 1 is a performance for two plasterers. In part 2 an actor tries to tell his story as authentically and objectively as possible.

After all the B-films, now it’s on stage too: the zombie genre! In this ‘Spoken Word-thing’ the author, actor, director and stand-up comedian Joost Vandecasteele shares the stage with actress Sara De Bosschere.

In The Deer House Jan Lauwers mixes two storylines, thus creating a surreal and absurd fable about the present. The Deer House is the concluding part of the Sad Face / Happy Face trilogy, comprising three stories about human nature.

Following his four-part stage adaptation of Proust’s A la recherche du temps perdu, the director Guy Cassiers has started on another magnum opus of European literature, an adaptation in three performances of Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften by the Austrian writer Robert Musil.
