In 2009 the STAN theatre company will celebrate its twentieth anniversary. Damiaan De Schrijver, Jolente De Keersmaeker, Frank Vercruyssen and Sara De Roo have always remained faithful to an individual style of acting that is actor-oriented and undogmatic. The undogmatic element lies hidden in its name, S(top) T(hinking) A(bout) N(ames), and is being reflected in the hybrid, but highly socially critical repertoire (Cocteau, Anouilh, Chekhov, Bernhard, Ibsen, Wilde, Shaw, Diderot and so on). The fact that their work is oriented towards the actor is evident in the fact that the group never works with a director. Each actor has his say about the direction a performance takes.
To preserve the dynamic element in the group each of the four actors also creates performances with individuals or companies outside STAN and other actors are regularly invited to collaborate in productions. Consequently, apart from two permanent members, Natali Broods, Robby Cleiren, Tine Embrechts, Maaike Neuville and Nico Sturm will join in the creation and performance of STUKKEN which will have its opening performance in Kaaitheater in the spring of 2009. The material of the performance is provided by the writers Saskia De Coster, Patricia De Martelaere, Tom Lanoye, Bart Moeyaert, Yves Petry and Annelies Verbeke.
