Schwalbe zoekt massa
16.01 – 17.01.2014
A larger whole
Schwalbe zoekt massa reveals the dilemma inherent in man. On the one hand there is the euphoria an individual may feel when he merges with the crowd, at a concert, a pilgrimage or a demonstration. On the other hand there is the fear of the uncontrolled power of the masses. Masses that can be destructive. That strike out in panic. That trample, and see an enemy in everything that is outside it. Schwalbe zoekt massa is about the desire to be and fear of being part of a larger whole.
• Schwalbe is a theatre collective consisting of seven actors and theatre-makers. Their work lies on the boundary between theatre and performance. Each performance starts out from the body. The physical is carried to an extreme and reveals itself to be erratic and unpredictable in extreme conditions. The live aspect and the unexpected are caught in a theatrical setting. The Dutch magazine Theatermaker proclaimed Schwalbe speelt vals to be the best mime performance of 2012.
