Sans-titre - a piece for Faustin Linyekula

The word ‘titre’ or title, has many meanings. The most current version refers to the title of a work, but a title is also a document of proof that carries legal power. A ‘Sans-titre’ is, like a ‘sans-papiers’, someone without papers and all the rights pertaining to them. Although this is a politically charged concept, do not expect a simple pamphlet from Hoghe. He makes political (dance) theatre ‘without words’. ‘A white and a black person on stage together already form a statement,’ says Hoghe, ‘just as when I display my own hunchbacked body in my performances: I don’t have to say anything to claim ‘another’ body’s right to exist.’
● Raimund Hoghe had already made a name for himself as a publicist and as Pina Bausch’s dramaturge when he started making theatre and dance performances in 1989. His stripped down, ritualistic performances are a regular part of the Kaaitheater programme. The Congolese dancer and choreographer Faustin Linyekula has previously performed in the KVS and at the 2009 Kunstenfestivaldesarts. From 16 to 19 March 2011 Faustin Linyekula presents his own production Pour en finir avec Bérénice at the KVS.
