PERFORMATIK 2011

Kaaitheater
Black box or white cube?

During the nine days of the Performatik Festival, we shall be spotlighting contemporary performance art, body art and live art. For the second time we shall again be cooperating with numerous partners in Brussels, each of whom will contribute their own expertise. Which means we shall be viewing this art form not only from the theatre and dance angle, but also from that of the visual arts, where performance art is flourishing now as in the past.

The festival opens at Wiels with an exhibition entitled The Other Tradition. The artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster heads in the direction of theatre together with the Berlin musician Ari Benjamin Meyers, while Kris Verdonck, artist in residence at the Kaaitheater, is creating an exhibition on location. Kafka provides the inspiration for both. Having deciphered the codes of theatre and the office, Deep Blue is now turning to the hotel room. Barbara Matijevic and Giuseppe Chico revive two of the successful lecture-performances from the last Spoken World Festival and present the world premiere of the third part. And Ivo Dimchev, one of the most intriguing performers around today, will be appearing at the Kaaitheater, with his dog.

Black box or white cube? Exhibition or performance? The Performatik Festival is where boundaries are explored and codes deciphered. What holds it all together is the live event, the encounter between you and the performer, in the here and now.
>>> The full programme will be announced at the end of November.
