Matinee Kadee

5 workshops for children
Kaaitheater

Matinee Kadee is the name of our fun children’s workshops on Sunday afternoons. While you enjoy the matinee performance, we organise a playful workshop for your children (from 4 to 12 years old); for the very youngest there is a cosy playroom with a babysitter.
The workshops and the playroom are free but the number of places is limited, so it’s necessary to book in advance! All you have to do is buy tickets for your performance.

A famous actor feels that his memory, the home of the soul, is slowly breaking down. He decides to end his life in a reality show with a worldwide audience: ‘The Art of Entertainment’. Until the bitter end he continues to play his role. The art of entertainment thus unfolds as an entertainer’s apologia and a conversation about the decadence of the Occident. A Monty Python style comedy: absurd, black, sharp, incisive.

The audience sits on all three sides of an equilateral triangle. In the middle, six dancers circulate. The performance, which premiered at the Kaaitheater last season, is a brilliant piece of choreography on three-part paradigms from science, art and philosophy. A Dance for the Newest Age (the triangle piece) is focused on dance, insatiable and greedy. ‘Everything comes: bring it on!’

Ten years after Lucia Smelt, Oscar van den Boogaard has written a sequel called Decemberhonger for Sara De Roo and Steven Watermeulen. The couple from Lucia Smelt is still together, but their relationship is no longer so supple. They have to look for new ways of dealing with each other. Decemberhonger is a striking rendering of a particular phase of life and a story of love and separation.

Drumming (1998) is undoubtedly one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s most fascinating choreographic works: a dazzling dance set to a powerful score for percussion by Steve Reich, performed. The Ictus Ensemble bring this compelling score to life with breath-taking precision. Drumming is a stunning journey, a wave of pure dance and pure sound, a vortex of life energy.
