dance - Season 12/13
Whatever we do, wherever we go, we leave traces. However, other people have also left traces before us. The Phantom Layer is a performance about limited options and unlimited outcomes. It is about endless repetition and freedom. It is about the dance we all dance, and which makes us all unique.
In December 2011 dancer and choreographer Georgia Vardarou showed her Hardcore Research on Dance. Both Salva Sanchis and Marc Vanrunxt respond now with a choreographic proposal to her solo. From an affinity for each other’s work came the idea to turn Hardcore Research on Dance into a triptych: three writings for one dancer, 3 x Georgia Vardarou.
For Discografie the choreographers Marc Vanrunxt and Arco Renz each create a solo for dancer Rob Fordeyn. They interweave this material into one creation in which their styles enter into a dialogue with one another. In their work Vanrunxt and Renz share a focus on stillness and mystery, a sustained radicalism and precision aimed at achieving a poignant ‘beauty’.
Drumming (1998) is undoubtedly one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s most fascinating choreographic works: a dazzling dance set to a powerful score for percussion by Steve Reich, performed. The Ictus Ensemble bring this compelling score to life with breath-taking precision. Drumming is a stunning journey, a wave of pure dance and pure sound, a vortex of life energy.
The choreography of Danza Permanente comes from a musical composition created in Vienna two centuries ago by a deaf man, Beethoven. In this new work, the score is transposed into movement for four dancers, each taking the part of a single instrument. They embody the musical structure and dynamics of the string quartet, behaving as sound, in silence.
